Dr. Terrance Boult
El Pomar Chair of Innovation and Security
 Dr. Boult is the El Pomar Endowed Chair of Innovation and Security and Professor of Computer Science at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs . From 1994 to 2003 he was with Lehigh
University, where he founded the Computer Science and Engineering
department and held the position of Weissman Chair of Computer
Science. He was on the faculty at Columbia University from 1986-1994.
From Aug 2002 through Jan 2004, Dr. Boult was the Chief Technology
Officer for Guardian Solutions Inc, helping to commercialize his
research in sensor-based security systems, including
developing/deploying one of the largest wireless video surveillance
systems in the world.
Dr. Boult's ongoing research projects include advanced biometrics, advanced visual security systems, design and
evaluation of imaging sensors for facial recognition, evaluation of
weather effects on facial recognition, and algorithms for efficient
use of wireless networks. As a result of his work in advanced biometrics, Dr. Boult has founded Securics, a startup-up company based in Colorado Springs.
He has received funding from DARPA, ONR, the Army Night Vision Lab, Siemens, the AT&T Foundation, the Lucent
Foundation, RemoteReality Inc, McQ Associates, PadCom Inc.,
Pennsylvania Infrastructure Technology Alliance, and the Ben Franklin
Foundation of Pennsylvania. Dr. Boult received an NSF Presidential
Young Investigator award, and has won teaching awards at both Columbia
and Lehigh. Dr. Boult has published over 120 papers and holds 4
patents, with 8 pending. He has served as an associate editor for
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Perception (IEEE
PAMI). He co-organized multiple workshops on visual surveillance and
computer vision related topics, and has participated on program
committees for more than two dozen IEEE and SPIE conferences and
workshops on computer vision and sensor fusion, as well as an ACM
program committee in software engineering.

El Pomar Chair of Engineering and Innovation
Michael earned his PhD from MIT in 1992, his M.S. from the University
of Michigan and his B.S. from Tulane University. He now holds the El
Pomar Endowed Chair of Engineering and Innovation and is a Professor
of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. With funding totaling more
than $6M from a variety of agencies, including the NSF, the U.S. Air
Force, the Missile Defense Agency, and private corporations, Michael
has tackled a number of projects related to the fracture and failure
of materials and to optical methods, including bolstering the
reliability of microelectronic components. His current research focus
is on laser/materials interactions, especially related to medical and
homeland security applications.
Michael has a passion for creativity and innovation. Before coming to
CITTI, he co-founded two companies, one based on a medical device he
invented and another based on a consumer product, a laser board game
called Khet. In 2005, New Orleans' City Business magazine named him
"Entrepreneur of the Year" for founding and directing a studio for
creative design. Dr. Larson has conducted numerous workshops on the
topics of innovation and creative problem solving. He has garnered
six awards for outstanding teaching and conducted a program, with
funding from the Lilly Foundation, to increase high school student
interest in engineering fields. Dr. Larson has provided engineering
consulting and design services for a number of clients, including
designing and fabricating a rocket-port measurement device for
Lockheed-Martin, and serving as a product design and failure analysis
expert in legal cases. He has piloted a jet aircraft, steered a
nuclear submarine, and can wiggle his ears. One at a time.

The College of Business and Administration and the El Pomar Institute for Innovation and Commercialization (EPIIC) at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) invite you to apply for the position of El Pomar Chair of Entrepreneurial Finance. This position is a split appointment between the College of Business (COB) and EPIIC. To be qualified, applicants must have a doctoral degree in a business-related field, preferably from an AACSB accredited institution, with a record of accomplishment appropriate to be appointed as a tenured faculty member in the COB. Preference will be given to applicants with national or international standing in his/her discipline, a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research in finance. Preference will be given to candidates with leadership experience in entrepreneurial organizations.
This position is endowed by El Pomar Foundation, one of the leading private, general purpose philanthropic organizations in the Rocky Mountain region. Established in 1937, E1 Pomar Foundation (http://www.elpomar.org) provides resources and opportunities to nonprofit organizations involved with arts and humanities, education, health, human services and civic and community initiatives. Since its inception, the Foundation has contributed more than a quarter of a billion dollars throughout Colorado to programs and projects that have helped to define the Centennial State.
In 1990, the University of Colorado received an historic grant from El Pomar Foundation to establish CITTI (http://www.citti.uccs.edu). In the spring of 2008 CITTI was revitalized into the El Pomar Institute for Innovation and Commercialization (EPIIC). The Institute acts as a bridge between the university, industry, and the wider community to encourage the transfer of knowledge between the university and local entrepreneurial companies. A common mission of the El Pomar Foundation, UCCS, and EPIIC is economic development in the Pikes Peak region, with a particular focus on the development, mentoring, and funding of startup technology companies.
Through the unique partnership between UCCS and El Pomar, EPIIC supports the work of three El Pomar endowed professorships. Fifty percent of the holder's time in this position will be devoted to the COB teaching finance courses, conducting research in his/her respective discipline, developing community relations, and writing grants. Fifty percent of an El Pomar Chair's responsibilities are devoted to EPIIC activities. Such activities include but are not limited to assisting local entrepreneurs in the Colorado Springs area.
Possible expectations include enhanced instructional programs through COB and a stream of research in a closely related domain, development of community partners in achieving economic development initiatives, building interdisciplinary relationships across campus, and the attraction of financial resources to further the mission of EPIIC and COB.

All three degree programs are accredited by the AACSB International. There are approximately 1,100 undergraduate majors and 520 graduate students. Faculty and student diversity is important to the campus and the COB. Currently, 18.3% of the College student population consists of minority students. The College works diligently to increase the representation of women and minorities in the COB. It further supports those students and faculty with the Business Diversity Union.
